Our history as a performing arts venue began in the early 1900s when Pierre S. du Pont built the Gardens’ Open Air Theatre.

Today, this picturesque stage continues to serve as our dominant performance space.

Over the years, our performance lineup has expanded significantly from a handful of events in the summer to an impressive year-round schedule that includes local artists, Grammy-award winning musicians, world-renowned dance ensembles, and a host of interpretive exhibitions and displays that add to Longwood’s lure.
