Human Resources Manager
Longwood Gardens has an opening for a full-time Human Resources Manager. We are looking for a professional to assist the HR Administrator in the implementation and execution of HR practices, procedures and organizational policies. The incumbent will be involved in all aspects of HR coordination, including professional and leadership development programs, recruitment and retention, as well as in providing support for compliance, benefits, wellness and other areas. This individual must effectively interact with staff at all levels of the organization, in addition to candidates, consultants and vendors. Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to, assisting with coordinating, managing and participating in recruitment and selection focused on attracting top talent. In addition, he/she will assist in the creation, implementation and delivery of various training and development programs. A particular focus of the next five years will be to advance the organization's leadership development and online initiatives in relation to staff development, training and communication.
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in HR, Business or a related field and have at least eight years of relevant experience. We are looking for someone who has excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of federal and state labor and employment laws is required. Experience in designing and delivering professional and leadership development programs, particularly in an on-line environment, is desired.
Public Safety & Security Assistant Manager
Longwood Gardens has an opening for a full time Public Safety & Security Assistant Manager. We are looking for an individual who will assist in managing the daily security and safety operations of the gardens. Responsibilities will include hiring, managing and training staff as well as implementing work schedules and assignments. This individual will assist with the efficient and effective operation of Public Safety, Security and Mailroom services. In addition he/she will coordinate activities regarding the security and safety of Longwood Gardens’ guests, employees and properties. The schedule will vary but will include consistent evening and weekend work, as well as holidays and special events. The ideal candidate will have strong managerial skills which should include budget preparation, negotiation, collaboration, human resource management, project management and special events emergency operations planning. In addition this individual should have excellent communication, customer service and conflict resolution skills. An understanding of security and life-safety systems, technologies and central station operations is a must.
Candidates should possess a degree in Public Safety and Emergency Management, Criminal Justice, Police Science, or similar major and have 5 years of experience in a managerial capacity, preferably in security, law enforcement or other customer service oriented establishment. Fleet and Equipment Mechanic
Longwood Gardens has an opening for a full time, Fleet and Equipment Mechanic. This individual will be performing repairs and preventative maintenance on all Longwood fleet vehicles and equipment. We are looking for someone to perform skilled mechanical duties, which include diagnosing and repairing, in addition to performing preventative maintenance on a wide variety of vehicles and equipment (500+ units). Size of equipment ranges from small engine work on landscape equipment all the way to 33,000 lbs. GVW diesel trucks. This individual will also be involved with ordering parts and maintaining inventory, working with local parts vendors. Expertise in operating various “tools of the trade” such as ODB II scan tool, electronic wheel balancer, tire changing machine, air tools, vehicle lifts, multimeter, brake lathe, charging system tester, emission computer, etc. Individual will perform state safety and emissions inspections on fleet vehicles. Individual will also be required to train staff on pre-usage equipment inspection and general operation. Ability to operate a rollback truck to provide on-property recovery of vehicles required. This position also requires participation on off-hours snow operations mechanic on-duty coverage when required.
Preferred candidate will have a two year degree from a technical school and a minimum of 5 years of job related experience. They will have good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a broad range of people. In addition applicants must be able to use a computer to enter repair orders, external dealer work, research equipment and use email. Flexibility to work after hours as necessary for fleet upkeep required. Must have a valid CDL Class A driver’s license, a DOT medical card, a forklift operator’s license, and PA State safety and emission inspection licenses. Visitor Center Assistant Manager – Contact Center (Call Center)
Longwood Gardens has an opening for a full time Visitor Center Assistant Manager for our Contact Center/Call Center. We are looking for an individual who will assist in managing the daily operations of the Visitor Center including our Contact Center. Responsibilities will include hiring, managing, training and scheduling staff. This individual will assist with crowd control during peak attendance periods, resolve guest issues, and monitor Visitor Center operations. Our Contact Center handles upwards of 120,000 calls on an annual basis. This position will conduct an overall needs assessment and make recommendations for improvement. The daily work schedule varies from season to season, but will include evenings and consistent weekend work (at least 1 weekend day/night per week), and includes holidays.
The ideal candidate will have 5+ yrs experience supervising staff and come from a customer service, non-profit, retail or hospitality background. The individual must be proficient with all Microsoft Office applications as well as background using a point-of-sale system. Knowledge of Call Center Management principals, reporting, guest service standards and familiarity with technical systems is required to fill this position. Associate Director of Facilities and Information Technology
Longwood Gardens is searching for an Associate Director of Facilities and Information Technology (highest IT leadership role for the organization), who will lead the team responsible for strategy, implementation and support of our core technology infrastructure in alignment with Longwood’s strategic direction. The incumbent in this position must have broad and solid technical knowledge while being able to demonstrate success in providing IT direction that meets the business needs of the organization. He/she will participate and contribute to overall business technology planning, bringing current knowledge and future vision of technology and systems to business processes to ensure a robust technology structure.
In addition to strong leadership, this individual must be able to provide hands-on expertise with enterprise communications, network and software development and support to ensure the security, stability and proper functioning of IT systems. Strong understanding of structured development methodologies, quality assurance, and production support in a Microsoft centric environment focused in .Net, IIS, SQL Server, Oracle, POS systems and other leading edge technologies on a primarily Dell hardware platform.
The preferred candidate will have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT Management, Business Administration or a related field, in addition to seven to ten years of progressive experience in leadership roles in developing enterprise software and hardware solutions. Technical certifications are a plus. This individual must have excellent communication and customer services skills, and the ability to interpret and deliver enterprise solutions in support of developing organizational needs.

Longwood Gardens has an opening for a Mason/Equipment Operator in the Facilities Department. This individual will be responsible for various masonry duties to build, maintain, and repair masonry structures throughout the gardens, either of a permanent or temporary nature. This individual will also operate many types of equipment and provide manual labor in a civil engineering role throughout the gardens, such as grading and drainage, planting and utility excavations, trenching, paving, foundation repairs, manual lifting, lay stone/brick, etc. Types of equipment this individual will be operating include, but are not limited to, backhoes, excavators, dump trucks, track loaders, road sweepers, concrete mixer, salt spreaders, forklifts, plate tampers and plow trucks. In addition to these responsibilities, this individual will provide labor to assist in all general Civil Division duties such as programming display setups, winter snow plowing and hauling, fireworks event setup, fountain cleaning, site work, in varying weather conditions.
Applicant must be able to work after hours, weekends, and holidays when needed. This applicant must also be must be able to work alone or in a team, self-organize and manage assigned workload, learn new skills and adapt to changing jobs. PC skills, such as simple editing of word and excel documents, e-mail, work order entry and navigation, are required. High school diploma required with relevant trade school degree preferred. Applicant must have a DOT medical card, CDL A driver’s license, and forklift operator’s license, or must be able to obtain these licenses upon first year of employment.
