Since the third week of February, we have been watching with anticipation as the tulip foliage emerges from its slumbering place in the earth. Nothing is more welcoming after a long winter than the colorful arrival of the first tulips of spring. We all look forward to the day when we see the very first and earliest tulips start to flower. The tulip display is always changing as new tulips open while others finish their show.
The Flower Garden Walk display is reaching full bloom time now, and this weekend will be a peak time to see these beautiful flowers in full color. And, the weather is supposed to cooperate! 80 degrees and sunny in beautiful Kennett Square.
This tulip explosion does not happen by chance. Our gardeners work on bed designs and bulb orders are processed in the purchasing office a year in advance. When fall arrives each year a crew of approximately fifteen staff, students and volunteers lay out and plant around 100,000 bulbs on the Flower Garden Walk. It takes a week and a half of hard work and long days to accomplish this planting project.
I hope that you will enjoy our hard work and planning on your next visit!
