Senior Administrative Assistant
Longwood Gardens is looking for a full-time Senior Administrative Assistant to provide highly skilled administrative and secretarial support to the Department Head of Facilities Management and other staff members within the Facilities Department. This individual will use administrative skills to handle guest communications (internal and external); executive correspondence and presentation preparation, and general clerical duties. In addition, this individual will assist with preparation and processing of purchases and work orders, design and construction contracts, and project specifications. Additionally, this position would provide back-up Help Desk coverage for the Facilities Department.
The preferred candidate will possess an Associate degree in Administration or a related field and have a minimum of five years’ demonstrated excellence in administrative assistance, preferable in a Facilities management environment. Prior administrative experience in support of project management preferred. Baseline knowledge and skills for the position include, but are not limited to: excellent interpersonal and communication skills; advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; the ability to type 60 wpm and take minutes; strong planning and organizational skills.
Longwood Gardens has an opening for a full time conservatory gardener to take charge of the Orchid Collection. This is the largest taxonomic collection at Longwood. The orchid grower will join 7 other gardeners who manage over 4000 taxa in 3.5 acres of conservatories that make up the centerpiece of Longwood's world-renowned displays. Responsibilities include all aspects of maintaining and displaying the 6,500 plants of 2,000 orchid taxa as well as assisting other gardeners, ordering supplies, and receiving and delivering plants. Periodic weekend, holiday, and evening duty is required. Minimum requirements include: Bachelor of Science degree in horticulture with emphasis on conservatory collections; working knowledge of greenhouse technology, environmental control systems, and irrigation; and two years of experience managing plants in a greenhouse. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational and communication skills with experience working as part of a team. Must have a valid driver's license and be willing to obtain a Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicator's license and a forklift operator's training certificate.
Longwood Gardens has an opening for a full time custodian (and multiple openings for part time custodians). Individuals in this position will perform various duties to ensure the cleanliness and excellent physical appearance of both the buildings and grounds. Selected applicants will also work with various departments to assist in the setup of functions and events. We are looking for candidates who have exceptional customer service, communication, and hospitality skills. Work schedules will vary but may include weekends, evenings, and holidays. Longwood Gardens has an opening for a plumber. The applicant must be familiar with all facets of the plumbing trade including installation and repair of water, steam, air and condensate piping. Proficiency in repair and maintenance of pumps, valves, compressors, heat exchangers and valve positioners is required. The individual must be capable of layout and installation of piping control systems from prints and specifications and have good troubleshooting capabilities with respect to pipe/plumbing systems and the controls and Variable speed drives that dictate pump operations. Experience with sewage treatment plants, potable water systems and irrigation systems are desirable. In addition a Master’s Plumber license, Journeyman’s Card and/or Waste Water Operators license are a plus. Must have a valid drivers license.
