HVAC/Environmental Controls Technician

Longwood Gardens has an opening for a full time Environmental Controls Technician in the Facilities Management department. This individual will be responsible for operating, maintaining, troubleshooting and servicing all heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems and all electrical and various other control systems on site. The applicant must possess or be willing to obtain a Universal CFC Recovery Certification License. In addition to maintenance responsibilities this individual will provide support for various events and displays. Some overtime and off hours work including weekends and holidays will be required.

The applicant must have a minimum of 8 years of commercial or industrial experience and completion of a trade school or Dept of Labor & Industry registered apprenticeship program. Requirements include computer literacy and training or experience with HVAC systems, greenhouse controls, electrical systems and process instrumentation. Applicant will be required to operate a man lift and work at heights of 30 feet as well as be capable of lifting 50 pounds.

Event Operations Manager

Longwood Gardens is seeking a creative and entrepreneurial leader for the position of Event Operations Manager to help advance our vision for internal and external events. This individual will manage our Event Division and act as a liaison with internal departments to coordinate and execute both internal and external facility rental events at Longwood Gardens. The position will actively coordinate logistics and staff, including partnering Longwood Garden’s food service provider, to ensure all aspects of each event are executed in their entirety. This position will supervise the operational services team, responsible for event setup and breakdown as well as general custodial duties throughout the gardens. 

Preferred candidates will have five to ten years of event management experience that includes managing managers and contracts. Excellent guest service and resolution skills are required. This person must have proven budget and project management skills, and excellent written and verbal communications. Large scale and special event management, in hospitality management or with other cultural institutions, is preferred. The individual must have the ability to work holidays, evenings and weekends to meet the business needs of Longwood’s special events, programming and daily operations. 

Electronics Technician

Longwood Gardens is seeking an Electronics Technician to perform installation, repairs and preventative maintenance of electrical control systems throughout the site, adhering to established safety and electrical regulations. This individual will provide, with minimal supervision, technical support for various programs, events and displays, and owner requirements and technical support for new construction projects. Emphasis will be on fountain and show controls, lighting, PLC, radio and fire alarm systems. The incumbent will operate, maintain and repair site power distribution system, lighting control and dimming system, all fountain, display and greenhouse control systems, all programming and display events, and any mobile equipment required to perform the job, as well as provide support for site radios and repeaters and for our Simplex fire alarm system. Weekend, holiday and off hours coverage is required including participation in a rotating second shift during the fountain season.
Successful completion of Electronics Trade School or an Electrical Apprenticeship program, a minimum of four years of experience as a Controls Technician, PLC experience, and a strong working knowledge of the NEC, NFPA 70E and OSHA 1910S Safety Standards is required. Familiarity with email, internet and Microsoft Office products is required. Electrical, HVAC, and Process Instrumentation experience preferred. The successful candidate will have strong trouble shooting skills, and an understanding of PLC wiring and logic diagrams/programming, lighting control systems, site radio communications infrastructure, licensing requirements, radio programming and repairs procedures, and fire alarm infrastructure and fiber optic communications systems.

Longwood Gardens is seeking a Plumber to provide hands on technical expertise for day-to-day operations and maintenance of fluid moving equipment, components, and piping in a safe, cost effective manner while ensuring good housekeeping and an excellent guest experience.  This position plans, organizes, orders materials, and prioritizes individual work orders assigned; performs day-to-day mechanical maintenance, system checks to diagnosis problems with the operation, and repairs on various systems; performs administrative work activities; ensures a broad range of building material functions as designed with integrated components that may be historic. The position is subject to after-hour call out for emergency work and rotates on an operations standby roster.

High School diploma/GED and successful completion of an apprenticeship program (such as pipe fitter, plumber, millwright) or five years demonstrated field experience is required.  Driver’s license is required; Master Plumber’s license, Journeyman card, and Water, Waste Water Operator knowledge are desirable.  Knowledgeable of BOCA National Mechanical Code, National Plumbing Code, ability to read P&ID, construction as built drawings, and building prints. This individual must have the demonstrated ability to operate the tools of the trade and to work with other trades, familiarity with email, internet and Microsoft Office products, and strong decision making, communication, analytical, problem solving and trouble shooting skills.

Senior IT Systems Administrator and Security Manager

Longwood Gardens is looking for a Senior IT Systems Administrator and Security Manager responsible for effective provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, security management and maintenance of systems and hardware (physical and virtual), software and related network infrastructure.  This individual will manage the IT security program, developing policy and managing IT security systems such as firewalls, intrusion prevention/detection, log analysis, vulnerability scanning, penetration testing and incident response.  This individual will lead the disaster recovery team by ensuring proper configuration and recovery testing of core systems, serve as the MS infrastructure (AD, SharePoint, Exchange, etc.) expert, and partner with other team members in a collaborative environment.

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s Degree (B.A/ B.S) or equivalent in a technical major such as Computer Science or Engineering from a four-year college or the equivalent combination of education and experience. The position requires expert knowledge in Active Directory, SharePoint, Exchange, Networks (wired and wireless), IT security frameworks and associated tools used to secure network infrastructure. Preferred candidates will have detailed understanding of and experience in ensuring PCI-DSS compliance.  Excellent customer service and communication skills, demonstrated ability to change in a fast-paced environment and a desire to learn new skills and implement new ideas is required.

Administrative Assistant, Fellows Program

Longwood Gardens’ Education Department is seeking a versatile, responsive and dynamic professional to provide highly skilled administrative and secretarial support to the Director of the Fellows Program. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in internal and external guest relations and communications, special events planning, file management, and report, correspondence and presentation preparation.

Successful applicants will perform work in alignment with Longwood’s organizational values and in support of its strategic plan. A Bachelor’s degree in Administration, Hospitality, or related field is required, as is five years of administrative experience, preferably in an academic or guest services setting. Event planning experience is highly desired. Exceptional computer skills are required. Occasional flexible hours on both weekday and weekends, including early/late hours as needed.

Integrated Pest Management Technician

Longwood Gardens is seeking a self-motivated, dynamic individual for the position of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Technician in the Horticulture Department. Primary responsibilities include assisting the IPM Specialist by scouting, diagnosing, treating, and training staff on plant health care issues and evaluating cultural, biological, mechanical, and chemical control strategies to reduce pests to tolerable levels across all areas of the conservatory, greenhouses, outdoor gardens and natural areas. This work requires a thorough understanding of horticultural practices, plant-pest interactions, control techniques and application equipment. This individual will conduct large tree sprays and other pesticide applications throughout the property, help train and direct the IPM team (staff, students, volunteers, and contractors) and assist with the management of all aspects of Longwood Gardens’ pesticide safety program.

Minimum of an Associate’s degree in entomology, plant pathology, or horticulture equivalent with two years’ experience working in landscape and/or greenhouse horticulture with special emphasis in pest management scouting, diagnosis, and treatment of a variety of ornamental plants is required. Must have or be willing to obtain a Class B commercial driver’s license and a PA Pesticide applicator’s license.

The successful candidate will possess good time management, organizational, and observation skills with strong attention to detail; fluency with Microsoft office, and strong communication skills with the ability to present to diverse audiences.
