Join us in the classroom and outside to discuss the values provided by our forests and to explore the wonders within the forest canopy.
Do you have a lawn on your property? Say you stopped mowing and went away for ten years. Upon your return, in what state do you think you would find your lawn? Chances are, you would encounter a young woodland emerging where your grass used to be. In both our classroom discussion and our interactive woodland walk, we will cover: forest layers, forest succession, the living subterranean root zone, trees and shrubs, woodland wildflowers, forest critters, the role of water, ecosystem services, and the unique sense of place beneath the treetops. Come prepared to engage in lively discussion and to get your hands a little dirty.
This is a one session class on September 27 at 1:30-4:30 pm.
Please remember that many courses are extremely popular and will sell out quickly. Register now to begin your journey in lifelong learning at Longwood Gardens.
