About this Outdoor Garden

The thick, gnarled vines of wisteria contrast with beautifully scented, cascading flowers in this spring-blooming Garden.

The decades-old wisteria vines—which bloom in May—grow on a heavy arbor and are trained into tiered tree forms.

History of this Garden

Enclosed on all sides by arborvitae, this garden room was formerly planted with roses and later with peonies. Redesigned by Thomas Church, since 1976 it has featured lavender, purple and white varieties of May-blooming Japanese wisteria.
