Longwood Gardens is pleased to announce that the Branford Marsalis Quartet will headline its annual Wine & Jazz Festival on Saturday, June 1 from noon-5:30 pm. The Festival features live jazz music throughout the day, fine wines from more than a dozen wineries and local, fresh fare amid the spectacular spring splendor of Longwood Gardens. World-renowned saxophonist and three-time Grammy winner Branford Marsalis was born in 1960 into one of country’s most distinguished musical families, which includes patriarch/pianist/educator Ellis and Branford’s siblings Wynton, Delfeayo and Jason. Branford gained initial acclaim through his work with Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers and his brother Wynton’s quintet in the early 1980s before forming his own ensemble. He has also performed and recorded with jazz giants including Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Herbie Hancock and Sonny Rollins.
The Branford Marsalis Quartet (www.branfordmarsalis.com) includes Branford Marsalis, tenor and soprano; Joey Calderazzo, piano; Eric Revis, bass; and Justin Faulkner, percussion.
In addition to Marsalis, a lineup of other jazz notables will perform throughout the day including Cuban jazz pianist Alfredo Rodríguez (www.alfredomusic.com); Philadelphia jazz vocalist Joanna Pascale (www.joannapascale.com); and 6-time jazz clarinetist of the year Anat Cohen Quartet.
Tickets for the Wine & Jazz Festival are $40 each and include Gardens Admission; Tickets for Garden Pass members and groups of 15 or more are $34. A souvenir glass is included for adult wine-tasters. Tickets for Designated Driver guests ages 12 to 20 are $25; $21 for Garden Pass Members; children ages 5-11 are $8 with an adult Wine & Jazz ticket holder (Garden Pass members ages 5-11 are free); and children ages 4 and younger are admitted free with an adult Wine & Jazz ticket holder.
