Discover learning at Longwood Gardens! Our on-site and online professional development opportunities for teachers use our educational resources and expertise as a foundation of our school gardening courses. The on-site courses integrate classroom content and the Gardens through a combination of tours, lectures, and hands-on activities, and our online courses provide instructor-facilitated professional development. We provide you with creative and practical ways to augment classroom curriculum to inspire a new generation of learners who value plants and stewardship of the environment.

Enjoy a complimentary day in the Gardens and discover all that our School and Youth Programs have to offer. Be introduced to Nurturing Curiosity Programs, high school programs, and professional development opportunities. Engage in conversation with Longwood Educators and learn about current and upcoming programs available on-site and online for you and your students.
Admission to the Gardens for this event is free for all teachers with a valid school ID. Register online.
Engage in literacy activities inspired by the natural surroundings, participate in "behind the scenes" tours by Longwood Gardens' professional staff, research a topic of personal interest, and collaborate with other teachers to create nature-inspired learning experiences for your students. In partnership with The Pennsylvania Writing and Literature Project, earn three graduate credits spending a week in the summer or five Saturdays during the school year at beautiful Longwood Gardens! Summer Session
July 15–19, 2013
Time: 8:30 am–4:00 pm
This course offers 6th-12th grade teachers a unique experience to revise writing inspired by Longwood Gardens' beautiful setting. Teachers will examine the way that Longwood's expert gardeners shape trees and shrubs and consider the implications for their own and their students' writing process. Participants will learn to adapt revision strategies that they will use to polish the prose they produce in the course.

K-12 teacher participants will learn a variety of journaling techniques which they will apply in multiple settings throughout Longwood Gardens. Teachers will consider the application of these techniques in their classrooms to enhance students' observation skills and to insprire their students as writers.
