Longwood Gardens is looking for a full-time Administrative/Project Coordinator to provide highly skilled administrative and secretarial support to the Project Management Office and others within the Facilities Department. This individual will use administrative and project coordination skills to handle internal and external communications, prepare presentations and executive correspondence, project cost tracking and reports, and perform other general clerical duties as needed.
The ideal candidate will possess an Associates’ degree in Administration or a related field and have a minimum of five years’ proven track record in project coordination and administrative assistance. Baseline knowledge and skills for the position include excellent interpersonal and communication skills; advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; the ability to type 60 wpm; strong planning and organizational skills. Prior administrative experience in the design and construction project industry and advanced knowledge of/experience with technology preferred.
Longwood Gardens has an opening for a full time Greenhouse Grower. They will join 12 other growers, producing over 1000 unique florist crops, in 4.5 acres of greenhouses and container fields, used to create Longwood’s world-renown displays. This position is located at our Nursery Production growing area. This candidate will be responsible for growing a broad range of herbaceous plant material to the highest standards. Responsibilities will include all aspects of floricultural crop production including: transplanting, potting, repotting, staking, tying, grooming plants, watering, and fertilizing. They will need to provide hands-on support as well as provide direction and training to students, seasonal employees, and volunteers on these practices. Knowledge of Integrated Pest Management is necessary, as this person will be responsible for all facets of IPM on the crops they grow. This person must be able to work independently as well as part of teams receiving and delivering plants and similar activities. Periodic weekend, holiday, and evening duty are required.
Minimum requirements include: BS degree in horticulture with emphasis on floriculture plus 4 years’ experience showing: working knowledge of greenhouse production technology, environmental control systems and irrigation; and general greenhouse flowering crop production. Associates degree would be acceptable from candidates with greater years of experience. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational, communication, and problem solving skills and experience indicating a level of mechanical aptitude. Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to obtain a Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicator’s license and a forklift operator’s training certificate.
Longwood Gardens is seeking a full-time Horticulturist for our Outdoor Landscape Division. This person will join a highly skilled team of horticulture professionals that manage Longwood’s world-renown outdoor gardens and landscapes, including the newly revitalized Main Fountain Garden, the Hillside Garden, and adjacent landscapes.
We seek a person that is able to perform a full range of gardening and horticultural duties. This position requires bending; stooping; ability to lift at least 50 pounds; integrated pest management; and working from ladders & aerial lifts. Daily care of the gardens, including deadheading, watering, staking, weeding, and mulching are critical for maintaining the high quality of these displays. Responsibilities also include training and mentoring students and volunteers on practices required to create and maintain outdoor displays to a high level of horticultural excellence. Longwood Gardens fosters a team approach which includes assisting other horticulturists throughout the property.
A Bachelor of Science Degree in horticulture with an emphasis in ornamental horticulture is preferred. The ideal candidate will possess a proven track record and experience with the care of gardens and landscapes, with strong organizational and communication skills and experience working in a collaborative culture. Must have a valid driver’s license and have or be willing to obtain a Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicator’s license, forklift operator’s training certificate, and aerial lift training. The position requires small equipment operator skills and has a work schedule that includes weekend, evening and holiday work.
Longwood Gardens is seeking a Membership Associate with prior experience supporting a large membership or development organization. This position is an integral part of our Membership Division and manages our member database, communicates regularly with our members, oversees the fulfillment process, and performs other administrative functions such as managing the member volunteer team and assisting in writing/reviewing member communications.
Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree (or 3 to 5 years of equivalent experience) with 1 to 3 years of experience in the membership/development/fundraising field. Preferred candidates will have experience working with membership, development, or fundraising programs, knowledge of CRM software such as Raiser’s Edge, strong Microsoft Office skills including Excel and Word, and will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail. The work schedule may include periodic holidays or weekends or on-call availability to provide an extraordinary guest experience.
Longwood Gardens is seeking a Plumber to provide hands on technical expertise for day-to-day operations and maintenance of fluid moving equipment, components, and piping in a safe, cost effective manner while ensuring good housekeeping and an excellent guest experience. This position plans, organizes, orders materials and prioritizes individual work orders assigned; performs day-to-day mechanical maintenance, repairs and system checks to diagnosis problems on various systems; performs administrative work activities; ensures a broad range of building material functions as designed with integrated components that may be historic. This is predominately a second shift position which may be subject to after-hour call out for emergency work and rotation on an operations standby roster.
High School diploma/GED and successful completion of an apprenticeship program (such as pipe fitter, plumber, millwright) or five years demonstrated field experience is required. Driver’s license is required; Master Plumber’s license, Journeyman card, and Water, Waste Water Operator knowledge are desirable. Knowledgeable of BOCA National Mechanical Code, National Plumbing Code, ability to read P&ID, construction as built drawings, and building prints. This individual must have the demonstrated ability to operate the tools of the trade and to work with other trades, be familiar with email, internet and Microsoft Office products, and possess strong decision making, communication, analytical, problem solving and trouble shooting skills.
