Delivering elegant and passionate performances characterized by sensitive phrasing, beautifully shaped melodic lines, and steady rhythmic energy, F. Anthony Thurman is music director at The First Presbyterian Church in Germantown, PA. He enjoys a distinguished career as organ soloist, having performed hundreds of recitals throughout the US and abroad.

Prior to coming to Philadelphia in 2016, Thurman was music director at the Irvington Presbyterian Church in Irvington on Hudson, NY for 22 years where he selected and dedicated a new organ by Klais (Bonn) and tower bells by Whitechapel (London). In addition to his work as a professional performing musician, he is in his third decade of service to the American Guild of Organists as director of development and communications.
Thurman’s earliest organ studies were with Ted W. Barr at Western Kentucky University. He earned both graduate and undergraduate degrees in organ performance at the University of Louisville as a student of Melvin Dickinson, and a doctorate in musical arts from the Manhattan School of Music as a student of McNeil Robinson.
