Spend the day with renowned author and professor of forest forensics Tom Wessels and change the way you perceive the forested landscape. Tom will show you how to uncover visual clues to unravel former agricultural, logging, or wind histories in our forests. Using the shapes of trees, trunk scars, stump decay patterns, stone walls, forest floor topography, and much more, a forest’s history can be deciphered in great detail. Walk off the beaten path through one of Longwood’s oldest woodlots and start looking for clues. Next, travel off-site for a rare opportunity to visit one of Chester County’s vast former estates, to continue reading the landscape and exploring previous land use.
