David Furniss is the Minister of Music at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, a position he has held since 1987. As a concert organist, he has been invited to perform throughout the Philadelphia region and beyond, including international organ festivals in Oaxaca and Saltillo, Mexico.

David Furniss is the Minister of Music at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, a position he has held since 1987. His strong and varied music program at St. John’s Church brings depth and meaning to Sunday morning worship, as well as enrichment to the North Penn community through the events of the St. John’s Artist Series. As a concert organist, he has been invited to perform throughout the Philadelphia region and beyond, including international organ festivals in Oaxaca and Saltillo, Mexico. He has served as a clinician for several professional organizations, often presenting sessions on recommendations for organ repertoire.

Mr. Furniss has held key leadership positions in the Philadelphia Chapter of the American Guild of Organists (AGO), the Hymn Society in the United States and Canada, and the United Church of Christ Musicians National Network. Currently he is serving a second term as Dean of the Philadelphia AGO Chapter, having served previously from 1999-2001. He was Chair of Performances for the National AGO Convention held in Philadelphia in 2002. He has served as an instructor for two AGO Pipe Organ Encounters and as an adjudicator for the West Chester University and Vernon deTar Organ Competitions in Pennsylvania and Delaware. As a choral singer, Mr. Furniss sings with the Chamber Choir of St. Peter’s Church in the Great Valley, and has been a chorister for Evensong services in week-long residencies at cathedrals in Canterbury, Ely, Durham, Oxford, Chester, Gloucester, and St. Paul’s in London, England.

David Furniss holds Bachelor of Music Degrees in Performance and Education from The Ohio State University, where he studied organ with Gordon Wilson, and a Master of Sacred Music Degree from Southern Methodist University and Perkins School of Theology, where he studied organ with Robert Anderson.
