Applications for the 2020 Longwood Organ Academy are now closed
Organ Academy Day Trip
During the week, students will visit one of the largest and most important organs in the world.
Wanamaker Organ—Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
While visiting the Wanamaker Organ in the Grand Court of the Macy's Philadelphia department store, students will have the opportunity to hear this magnificent organ and enjoy a private tour of the organ's pipes.
Built by Los Angeles Art Organ Company for the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair, the Wanamaker Organ was designed to be the largest organ in the world. The organ was built on such a grand scale that it bankrupted the builder, George Ashdown Audsley, which forced him to sell the organ to John Wanamaker for use in his store. Today, the Wanamaker organ is the largest fully functioning organ in the world, with performances throughout the week and on Saturdays.
Students who are accepted and will attend the Academy are expected to pay the tuition of $1,000.
Tuition includes housing, meals, and local transportation during the Academy as well as to and from the Philadelphia International Airport.
