Nightscape closed Oct 29, 2016
This year, music is an even more central feature of the Nightscape experience. Light and sound are more closely synchronized—each seamlessly intertwined with the other to create a deeper, more immersive experience.
Klip Collective worked with a team of technicians, composers, and musicians to create a new, fresh sound. For many pieces, the project musician returned to the masters, “borrowing” musical progressions that will be familiar to many of our guests. Strains of Bach, Brahms, and Debussy, performed by musicians from the Philadelphia area, add a more traditional—and human—flavor to last year’s fully synthesized score. But those musical interludes are reengineered and remixed to create something that, while not wholly unfamiliar, is entirely new.
The music helps us remember that Nightscape is, essentially, an exercise in changing our perception: we see our familiar Gardens in a fresh, new way and we hear glimmers of familiar music, but in an entirely new context.
The digital version includes all music from seasons 1 and 2, and is available for download and streaming at all major online music outlets. The limited-edition vinyl pressing includes selected music from both seasons, and a digital download card for the full soundtrack. It is available at The GardenShop at Longwood Gardens, and online at Amazon and Bandcamp.
