The stillness and textures of a winter garden are much admired in Japanese culture. The famous 17th century haiku poet, Bashō, wrote: Winter solitude—in a world of one color, the sound of wind.
Today our gardens and landscapes include many colors and textures for creating ikebana that can bring the feel of the winter garden into our home to enjoy. In this hands on workshop, create an ikebana ‘free style’ arrangement depicting a winter garden scene using both fresh and dried materials. The Sogetsu School of Ikebana’s philosophy is that ikebana can be created anytime, anywhere, by anyone, with anything, in any part of the world. In 2027, we celebrate the 100th anniversary of its founding.
