Longwood Gardens Releases Rare Green Clivia

Green clivia

KENNETT SQUARE, PA – Longwood Gardens has introduced the newest clivia from its respected breeding program, and is asking the public to help name it. The first green clivia released from the world-renowned Gardens’ breeding program, the clivia’s beautiful bloom features creamy green petals that gently cup a throat of deeper green. The blooms are offset by glossy, dark green foliage, creating a symphony of green, which is a rarity in the plant world.

Now through Saturday, March 9, clivia enthusiasts, plant lovers, and history buffs alike will have the chance to vote on the name for the clivia by visiting theflowershow.com/clivia.

Names in the running include:
1. ‘Longwood Hint of Mint’
2. ‘Longwood Winter Green’
3. ‘Longwood Green with Envy’

The new clivia will be on display at the Philadelphia Flower Show as part of an exhibit about Longwood Gardens’ Clivia Breeding Program in the Hamilton Horticourt.

The winning name will be announced March 10.

This is the sixth named clivia to be released from Longwood’s clivia breeding program, which began in 1976. Previous Longwood Clivia introductions include the Clivia miniata ‘Longwood Debutante’ in 2011, Clivia miniata ‘Longwood Fireworks’ in 2012, Clivia miniata ‘Longwood Sunrise’ in 2014, Clivia miniata ‘Longwood Chimes’ in 2016, and Clivia miniata ‘Longwood Sunset’ in 2017. All will be on display at the Philadelphia Flower Show.
