Explore creative and practical approaches to gardening in small spaces, both indoors and outdoors, during this comprehensive course.
Learn how to select, grow, and maintain plants suited for containers, raised beds, patios, balconies, and indoor environments. Emphasis will be placed on plant selection, design principles, seasonal interest, and proper care techniques for limited-space gardening. Enjoy guided garden walks and observe and evaluate plants commonly used in small-space landscapes and interior settings. By the end of the course, you will gain the knowledge and confidence you need to design and maintain attractive, functional gardens in compact spaces.

Instructor
Matt Calhoun and Renee Watson
Longwood Horticulturist Matt Calhoun, cares for the Cascade Garden and 1906, among other spaces. He began his journey at Longwood as an intern, inspired by a lifelong love of houseplants.
Renee Watson is a horticulturist in the Ornamental Kitchen Garden and works with a variety of fruits, vegetables, and herbs. She graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in Sustainable Plant Systems and a specialization in horticulture. She has a passion for different edible plants and is excited to share her knowledge.
