Request a Longwood Gardens Field Trip

Field trips are free for school groups with 15 or more students in grades Pre-K through 12 (ages 4–18). We are delighted to make field trips accessible to all, keeping with our mission of bringing joy and inspiration to everyone through the beauty of nature, conservation, and learning.

  • Field Trips are available select dates in Fall (September–November) and Spring (March–June).

  • Fall 2026 Field Trip requests open Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at 10:00 am. 

  • Field Trips are not available Sundays, Tuesdays, or Saturdays. 

  • All requests must be submitted a minimum of three weeks prior to the requested visit date(s).

  • Do not submit the request form as a placeholder for the group. Due to the high volume of requests received, rescheduling field trip dates may not be possible.
  • The field trip request form is only a request. Completing the form does not guarantee a reserved field trip date(s).

Educator-guided field trips offer 60 minutes of inquiry-based instruction in small student groups with a Longwood Educator. Program times are fixed; capacity is limited.

Grade Level(s) and Number of Students: Educator-guided student capacity is 90 students per program time. We offer two program times per date; AM Program (10:30-11:30 am) or PM Program: (12:00-1:00 pm). Groups with more than 90 students must be divided over more than one program time or field trip date. You may indicate your preference on the field trip request form.

Dates & Program Time in order of preference: Choose your preferred field trip dates and program times from the Field Trip Availability above. The number of students you are requesting should be equal to or less than the number of students listed on the date and program time.

Note for Philadelphia School District Schools: Longwood Garden’s Certificate of Liability is renewed yearly at the beginning of October. We highly recommend that Philadelphia School District teachers do not request or schedule field trip dates between Thursday, October 1 and Friday, October 16, 2026, to allow adequate time for documentation to be available for distribution. For additional information: schoolandyouth@longwoodgardens.org

You may opt to be scheduled for a self-guided field trip on your requested dates: if an educator-guided field trip is not available on your requested dates, you may opt to be scheduled for a self-guided field trip instead.  Checking "Yes” on this question may result in the group being scheduled for a self-guided field trip. School Information: School Name, School Address, Type of Educational Institution (Cyber, Charter, District School, etc.) and District Name if applicable. 

Free Adult Admissions: The number of free adult admissions will be automatedly calculated on the request form; Groups will receive one free adult admission for every ten students attending. 

School paraprofessionals and/or school nurses: If the number of required staff is unknown when filling out the request form, it may be updated up to three weeks prior to the date of the field trip.

Picnic Area:  if your educator-guided dates are not available, and group is scheduled for a self-guided field trip instead, this will be the default dining option for your group
The Café:  Food may be purchased from the Café.

Self-guided field trips allow flexible arrival and departure times for groups. Groups may explore the Gardens or download our free self-guided activities prior to arrival. 

Grade Level(s) and Number of Students: Self-guided student capacity is 180 students per day. Groups with 181 or more students must attend on more than one field trip date.  

Dates in order of Preference:  Choose your preferred field trip dates from the Field Trip Availability above. The number of students you are requesting should be equal to or less than the number of students listed on the date.

Arrival Time: group check-in available between 10:00 am–2:00 pm.

Transportation Information: Number of buses or 15-passenger vans that the group will be arriving in. If the number of buses or 15-passenger vans changes, it may be updated up to three weeks prior to the date of the field trip.
