Longwood Grant for Title I Schools

The Longwood Grant for Title I Schools provides support to Schools with 30% or more of the student population qualifying for the Free or Reduced Lunch Program when participating in an educator-guided or self-guided field trip.

Transportation reimbursement funds for Spring 2026 field trips are no longer available. Grant applications may still be completed to receive student return coupons. 

Who can apply for the Grant?

Schools with 30% or more of the student population qualifying for the Free or Reduced Lunch Program. School groups must be visiting the Gardens as an educator or self-guided field trip March 11- June 11, 2026. 

What does the Longwood Grant for Title I Schools include?  

Return coupons for the students.  Please note: transportation reimbursement funds for Spring 2026 are no longer available.

How To Apply

  1. Complete the field trip request form.  Allow up to three business days after submitting the field trip request to receive a field trip confirmation email. The email will have an attached pdf with the field trip date and reservation number. 

2. Collect a Title I documentation letter. All applications must have a Title I letter on school letterhead in the following format:  

  • Dated within 90 days of the application date.
  • State the current percentage of students in the school that qualify for free or reduced lunch - must be 30% or more to qualify.
  • Signed by the school principal or administrator.

  • Letter may be uploaded on the application as a rtf, pdf, doc or docx.

    Other types of Title I documentation may not be substituted.

3. Complete the Title I grant application. Have the following information collected prior to filling out the application; we are unable to save incomplete forms. 

  • Reserved an Educator-or Self-Guided Field Trip
  • Field Trip Date and Reservation Number
  • School Name
  • Teacher Name and Email Address
  • Title I letter in format outlined above  

4. Receipt of the grant application will be confirmed by email within one business day. All applications will receive a status update from schoolandyouth@longwoodgardens.org within three business days. 

Please note: Submission of an application does not confirm approval of the grant. Applications may be declined if:

  • Title I documentation letter is not submitted in required format.
  • The school does not meet the minimum percentage of 30% of the student population qualifying for the Free or Reduced Lunch Program.
  • A field trip date has not been reserved for the group.

Longwood Gardens thanks Essential Utilities for their support of field trips provided through the Title I Grant Program.

Transportation Reimbursement

  • Transportation reimbursement will be issued by check after the field trip.
  • Reimbursement amount will be issued for the actual expense provided on the final invoice, up to a maximum five buses per visit date and $500 per bus.
  • Final bus invoices are due 60 days after the field trip date.
  • Transportation reimbursement checks can be issued to the school, school's PTO or the school district. Checks cannot be issued to bus companies, third parties, or individuals.  
  • Transportation reimbursement is limited to “yellow” school buses.
  • Longwood Gardens does not provide funds for deposits due before or payments due on the date of the field trip.  
  • Educators are responsible for the group's transportation arrangements.

  • Additional staffing costs associated with visiting the Gardens, including student support or medical staff, are not eligible for reimbursement through the Grant.  

    Free Admission Coupons  

  • Free Admission Coupons will be mailed to the school after the field trip.
  • The number of coupons mailed will be equivalent to the student count provided when checking in the group on the date of the field trip.
  • Coupons are valid through August 31, 2026.

How To Redeem Free Admission Coupons

  • Coupons are redeemable for up to five (5) free general admission tickets.
  • Student (age 4-18) must be present at time of redemption
  • Bring the coupon to any ticketing window at Longwood Gardens.
  • Timed reservations are not required for guests entering with the Free Admission coupon.
  • Timed reservations are required for any guests in the party that exceed five (5) people.
  • Original coupon must be present. Duplicates are not accepted.
  • Coupons are not valid for special ticketed events & have no cash value.
  • Coupons are valid through August 31, 2026.
