Field Trips

Our educator-guided field trips are free for school groups of 15 or more students in grades pre-K through 12 (ages 4–18).

We are delighted to make field trips accessible to all, keeping with our mission of bringing joy and inspiration to everyone through the beauty of nature, conservation, and learning.

  • Grades 9-12

    Discovering GIS in the Gardens

Limited to 45 students per program time. Explore how the technology of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is used to collect plant record information at a public garden. At Longwood Gardens, plant information and mapping are an extremely important part of the daily operations and management of plant records with over 11,000 taxa. Students will conduct field observations, locate accessioned plants, and enter observational data into the plant records database using mobile mapping methods. Could GIS be a future career for your students? Ages 14-18.

  • Grades 9-12

    Benefits of Nature

Get inspired by nature and help students improve overall well-being by disconnecting from technology and exploring the senses through activities such as journaling and creating a DIY scent sachet. Students will leave with tips and tricks that can be used anywhere to promote good mental health. Ages 14-18.
