Draw some of nature’s most wacky and weird plants. Using line, form, and shading techniques you will progress from grayscale to full-color pencil drawings under the guidance of acclaimed artist Frank DePietro, who will demonstrate how to break down each image and recreate it on the page in fun and informative weekly lectures. After your lecture, pick a subject plant from our photo gallery or from your own collection, and start drawing! Submit a drawing weekly to Frank for critique.

Participants will receive a complimentary copy of Chris Thorogood’s illustrated book, Weird Plants, featured in Longwood Gardens’ 2020 Community Read.

K-12 educators in the course will receive 6 ACT 48 credits or a certificate of completion to receive professional development credits in their state of employment. They will also receive material on how to incorporate the course content into their curriculum.
