Start with an online orientation getting you ready for your visits to the Gardens, including a review of the principles of botanical illustration. Then join Heitzman at Longwood to work on your painting—a pairing of a plant and its pollinator. Choose from a selection of cut native flowers and blooms from our Meadow Garden to help create your painting. Once you’ve chosen your plant subject, learn more about its particular pollinators and choose which to feature in your work.  During the second onsite session, workshop your painting and gain insight from Heitzman on the illustration process. In between the two sessions, you’ll be able to take your chosen plant subject home to continue working at your own pace.

This class is intended for people with intermediate and advanced sketching and painting experience.
