General Guidelines

To best enjoy your visit to our Gardens, we suggest you:

  • Explore our website prior to your visit to see what's in bloom and browse our online calendar of events.
  • Check our hours of operation and note special announcements, including possible early closures, which vary depending on the season.
  • Buy your ticket in advance and have your ticket ready to show when you arrive. Sell out is possible.
  • Please allow 3.5–4 hours for your visit. Stay as long as you wish, and stamp your hand when you exit to leave and come back.
  • Dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes, as our Gardens are a walking experience. Bring water, a hat, sunscreen, and bug spray as needed. Insects, including ticks, bees, and mosquitoes, are a part of our ecosystem. Stay on pathways and check for ticks after leaving the Gardens.
  • Bring your own wheelchair, scooter, stroller, wagon, or personal mobility device. Wheelchairs, scooters, and strollers are also available for rent in our Visitor Center on a first-come basis and may not be reserved in advance.
  • Note that parking at remote lots is used during high visitation days throughout the year and complimentary transportation is provided to the Gardens.
  • Shop in the Gardens & Dine in our Café or fine dining restaurant, 1906. Reservations for 1906 are strongly recommended via OpenTable.
  • Connect to our free wifi; look for the FreeGardenWIFI network.
  • Use our interactive map.

  • Become a Member.

You may do the following during your visit:

  • Take photos and videos for non-commercial purposes (excluding performances)
  • Picnic in our picnic area (please note this is open on a seasonal basis, check availability)
  • Bring small, handheld digital devices with earphones
  • Bring service animals
  • Bring tripods and easels
  • Bring umbrellas (umbrellas are not permitted at outside performances)

Please refrain from the following during your visit:

  • Sunbathing
  • Walking without shoes on
  • Straying from paths
  • Feeding wildlife
  • Running or jogging in our Gardens
  • Cursing or yelling in our Gardens
  • Using flash photography at nighttime
  • Disobeying posted signage or safety barricades

The following items are prohibited in our Gardens:

  • Smoking, e-cigarettes and any illegal substance
  • Weapons of any kind, or items that look like weapons
  • Coolers, food and beverage, except water (food is permitted in our picnic area)
  • Climbing trees; picking plants and flowers; getting in our fountains, lakes, or creeks
  • Drones, props, signs, or free-standing photography equipment, except tripods and easels
  • Holding wedding or religious ceremonies or receptions
  • Changing clothes
  • Pets
  • Musical instruments and radios with speakers
  • Bicycles, rollerblades, skateboards, and other recreational vehicles
  • Any toy that is disruptive to other guests, including balls, frisbees, or other sports equipment
  • Balloons and bubbles
  • Masks, unless medically necessary or on children under the age of 12
  • Blankets or chairs except when otherwise noted (please reference table below)
  • Boxwood or chrysanthemums

Special Events

For certain special events at our Gardens, additional guidelines apply:

  • Review our General Guidelines
  • Seating, chairs and blankets: From time to time, based on the event or performance, we allow our guests to bring their own blankets or chairs to an event.
  • Please note: There are benches and seating throughout the Gardens for your enjoyment.

Fireworks & Fountains Shows

  • Review our General Guidelines
  • In the event of inclement weather, every effort will be made to hold the performance as scheduled, however the performance may be delayed or begin up to 30 minutes early
  • In the event of postponement or cancellation, ticket buyers will be notified as soon as a decision is made
  • Arrive no later than 1 hour and 15 minutes prior to show time to allow enough time to park and find or set up your seat
  • You may find increased traffic on these evenings, and perimeter roads and entrance ramps will close 45 minutes prior to show time
  • No strollers or blankets allowed in Fireworks venue, however strollers are permitted throughout the Gardens prior to the start of the show. Stroller parking is provided at our Topiary Garden during the show
  • Umbrellas must be closed at the time of the show so as to not obstruct the view. Rain gear (such as ponchos) is permitted
  • Lawn ticketbuyers: please bring your own folding chair. Chairs are not available for rent or purchase
  • Tripod and monopod use is not permitted during Fireworks & Fountains Shows
  • To preserve the experience for all guests, flash photography and videotaping are not permitted during the show

Wine & Jazz

  • Bring a chair or blanket
  • Bring a cooler smaller than 18 inches x 10 inches x 10 inches
  • Bring your ID
  • Drink responsibly
  • Pick up a festival guide when you arrive
  • Leave tripods, monopods, easels, and radios at home
