Registrations may be cancelled up to two weeks before the event, and your registration fee, less a $30 processing fee, will be refunded. Please note that refunds are not available for programs moved to scheduled inclement weather dates.

Join us for a lively lecture on topics from planting and care to the different varieties of peonies, then engage in a stroll through the Gardens to see how peonies are on display at Longwood. Gain a deeper knowledge of this bloom and apply your newfound insight into how you can select, grow, and care for peonies in your garden at home.

Location

The Grove Studios 104 & 105, Throughout the Gardens

This program will take place partially or entirely outdoors. Please dress for the weather and wear footwear suited for walking on uneven paths and through wet areas.

Instructor

Jeff Jabco

Jeff Jabco holds a master’s degree in Horticulture and Plant Pathology from North Carolina State University. He is the Director of Grounds and Coordinator of Horticulture for the Scott Arboretum at Swarthmore College, teaches botany in Longwood's Certificate of Merit in Ornamental Horticulture Program, and is also an instructor in Longwood's Professional Horticulture Program. He frequently lectures on plants, sustainable landscapes, and garden design. He is past president of the International Clematis Society and is a co-founder of the Mid-Atlantic Peony Society where he serves on the steering board. Jabco was named Teacher of the Year in 2009 by the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture. He was awarded the Rutgers Gardens Hamilton Award in 2017.  The Hamilton Award recognizes "an unsung hero, a quiet leader, or patient mentor in the field of horticulture".
