The current conductor and music director of Delaware ChoralArts and organist and director of music for The Episcopal Church of Saints Andrew and Matthew (Wilmington, DE), David Christopher has an active career as an organist, conductor, church musician, and teacher, as well as an interpreter of choral, orchestral, and stage music.
Christopher has performed extensively in concerts throughout the United States and is frequently called on to collaborate with singers and instrumentalists in recitals and chamber music programs.
Christopher began his early music studies with piano lessons in the first grade, and while in high school studied organ with John Holland at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Salisbury, MD. After his first organ recital at the age of 14, he appeared as soloist with a local community orchestra in Mozart’s Concerto for 2 pianos in E flat major KV 365 at the age of 15. Christopher was appointed organist and choirmaster at St. Peter’s in the Great Valley (Paoli, PA) at the age of 17, and soon afterwards became a frequent performer at Longwood Gardens.
Born in Philadelphia and raised in southern Delaware, Christopher received his undergraduate degree at West Chester University and recently completed a graduate degree in organ performance at the Peabody Conservatory of Music. He is the founding conductor of the Wilmington Children’s Chorus, has served as associate conductor for OperaDelaware, conductor of the City of Wilmington (DE) All-American Tribute Orchestra, and is currently the conductor and music director of Delaware ChoralArts. Christopher’s notable organ teachers have included Robert Elmore, Harry Wilkinson, Alan Morrison, and Donald Sutherland. Since April 2001, Christopher has served as the organist and director of music for The Episcopal Church of Saints Andrew and Matthew, a dynamic multi-cultural parish and center for art and music in downtown Wilmington, DE.
