Abbey Lakey
Abbey Lakey is an interdisciplinary visual artist. Originally from the south, she has been based in Philadelphia since 2018. Lakey received her BFA in Painting in 2020 and a Studio Art Certificate in 2021, both from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Lakey’s practice includes, but is not limited to, working with fibers, handmade paper, found objects, video, and paint. The work is rooted in the collective consciousness and the memory of place, space, and material. As a collaborator with her materials and environment, Lakey's material focus centers on sustainability and ephemerality. Through her art, Lakey reflects on the experience of life as both an observer and a participant.
