During this two-day botanical art in watercolor workshop, create a variety of watercolor nature studies both in the classroom and out in the Gardens.
Start with an intro about the medium, and then explore four basic techniques to use when applying watercolor to the page. Students will practice timing exercises and apply technique to basic 3D forms to understand how to shape light with watercolor. Use these techniques, paint a simple poppy motif to rehearse representational painting. On the second day of class, work on applying what was learned to observed subjects through a refined painting and/or by creating a series of observational watercolor sketches. Then, explore the Gardens to find and paint your botanical muse.
