Join The Savoy Company in our Gardens for Ruddigore, Gilbert and Sullivan’s satirical take on the Victorian melodrama genre. Ruddigore’s zany plot has it all—ghosts, witches, curses, disguises, and even a wicked villain who tries to make off with the fair maiden.

For centuries, a collection of ghostly ancestors haunt the lives of the Murgatroyd family, specifically their eldest sons, who are to become the Baronets of Ruddigore. The Baronets live under a witch’s cursecommit a crime every day, or die in agony. Sir Despard Murgatroyd, believing his elder brother dead, takes the mantle of Baronet and with it, its curse, leaving his own love Margaret to turn mad. Meanwhile, in the village of Rederring, young love blossoms between Robin Oakapple and the lovely Rose Maybud. While awaiting a proposal of marriage, Rose learns that her intended is none other than the true Baronet of Ruddigore, Sir Ruthven Murgatroyd, the rightful heir who has been living under an assumed name to escape his fate. Seizing this opportunity to win Rose's hand, Robin’s stepbrother, Richard Dauntless, makes a proposal of marriage, to the delight of a troupe of professional bridesmaids. Suddenly, the ghosts of Ruddigore come to life to educate their new Baronet. Can Robin outwit his ancestors’ ghosts to solve the curse, save the day, and be reunited with his love?
