During this professional development opportunity held in the beauty of our Gardens, focus on connections in nature and how to implement PA Science, Technology & Engineering, Environmental Literacy & Sustainability (STEELS) standards in your classroom, all while earning two Act 48 hours.

Discover inspiration in the wonders of natural phenomena by investigating plant adaptations in the classroom and the garden, and by taking on a design challenge rooted in nature‑based solutions. With Longwood Gardens as your learning lab, participate in hands-on activities that can be taken back to your classroom to actively engage your students in three-dimensional learning with a focus on Environmental Literacy & Sustainability and Life Sciences standards. Recommended for educators in grades 1-5.  Light refreshments provided. All materials included.

STEELS Standards:

3.1.1.A - Use materials to design a solution to a human problem by mimicking how plants and/or animals use their external parts to help them survive, grow, and meet their needs.
3.1.4.A - Construct an argument that plants and animals have internal and external structures that function to support survival, growth, behavior, and reproduction.

3.5.3-5.Z - Create a new product that improves someone's life.

3.4.3-5.A - Analyze how living organisms, including humans, affect the environment in which they live, and how their environment affects them.
