The grass family, or Poaceae, is one of the largest families of flowering plants, with more than 10,000 species.
Throughout our Gardens, we use ornamental grasses as not only fillers that bring interest to empty spaces, but also thrillers—moments of botanical beauty that draw the eye. Their versatility in size, texture, and color performs so many different functions in our Gardens, and now you can learn how to incorporate them into your own.
Join Longwood Horticulturist Kieran Avis for a deep dive into the culture and care of ornamental grasses. Begin with a lecture in the Visitor Center Auditorium to explore how to grow and care for ornamental grasses yourself, with a focus on cultivars and species that are ideal for home garden use. Using your expanded knowledge, venture out into the Gardens to see ornamental grasses in a garden setting.
