Take in the beauty of Longwood’s extensive bonsai collection, and then recreate that botanical beauty on paper while learning the technique of pencil drawing and working from direct observation.
While focusing on fundamental drawing techniques and applying technique to specific tree anatomy, practice how to find proportion and shape in three-dimensional objects, create contour specific to the tree you choose to draw, use cross contour lines to establish detail and form, create value scales from white to black, use shading techniques and layering with various pencils, and create with mark making. Submerse yourself in the foliage, trunks, branches, and bark of the bonsai of your choice and make your own two-dimensional creation. Participants must bring their own supplies.
