Join designer and artist Daniel Rodriguez and spend an afternoon engaging in urban sketching or sketching life “on location” rather than from reference material. Though it is frequently associated with architecture or “life on the street” moments, urban sketching is as varied as those who practice it.

During this experience, focus on the incredible architecture in The Gardens. Along the way, learn top tips for quickly capturing your surroundings in beautiful, accurate sketches that are works of art in and of themselves.

Instructor

Daniel Rodriguez

Daniel Rodriguez is a landscape designer and artist whose sketching expertise has been shaped through collaborations with world-renowned design firms including Frank Gehry Partners, OLIN, and EDSA. While creating illustrations for these leading practices, he developed an accessible approach to sketching that transforms complex spatial concepts into clear, engaging illustrations no matter the material.

His teaching method breaks down the fundamentals of how we observe and represent space, making urban sketching approachable—whether you're a design professional or just beginning your creative journey. Having instructed drawing workshops for students at Temple University and led Urban Sketch crawls in Philadelphia, he explores techniques refined through professional practice, showing how simple drawing tools can capture everything from sweeping garden perspectives to intimate botanical details.

Through his experience spanning high-profile design projects and urban sketching practice, Rodriguez demonstrates that the ability to quickly capture and communicate spatial ideas is invaluable. His passion lies in sharing these skills, helping others develop their own visual language for documenting the beautiful spaces around us.
