Longwood Debut
Specializing in performances that are not just heard, but experienced, flute and organ duo Doppelflöte—with Melissa Freilich on flute and Vincent M. Ryan on organ—is known for their impeccable ensemble, their continual expansion of repertoire, and for their ability to connect with the audience, often sharing dialogue and engaging in a deeper understanding of the music.
Teachers at heart, Freilich and Ryan love to connect with their audience. Whether they explain the different flutes being played, describe the music itself, or build the Orgelkids kit (a real pipe organ assembled and played during the concert), they are committed to sharing a deeper understanding—and therefore a fuller enjoyment—of the music with the listener.
Since 1998 they have performed together in numerous communities in the Philadelphia region, and in 2022 made their international debut in both the Castle Church and Town Church of Wittenberg, Germany. They are honored to have presented several premieres, with the November 2021 premiere of Ryan: Suite for Baroque Flute and Organ; and Börjesson: Sonatina for Do-Organ, as well as the September 2022 premiere of Meyn: With Pipes of Tin and Wood.
