Join internationally acclaimed organist Thomas Ospital for a remarkable evening of music. Originally from the Basque Country, Ospital has served as titular organist of the Church of St. Eustache in Paris since 2015 and was the first organist in residence at the Maison de la Radio. Widely admired for his virtuosity and artistry, he is recognized as one of the leading organists of his generation.
Ospital’s concert career led him to play both in France and abroad. Improvisation holds an important place in his musical practice. Anxious to perpetuate this art in all its forms, he practices, in particular, the accompaniment of silent films.
His first recording is devoted to works by Franz Liszt at the Grand-Orgue de Saint-Eustache (Hortus editions, September 2017). A second album, recorded on the organ of the Radio France auditorium and released in January 2018, is devoted to improvisations and works by Johann Sebastian Bach compared with Thierry Escaich’s Chorals-Études, which he premiered.
Passionate about transcription, Ospital is regularly asked to teach interpretation and improvisation in masterclasses. Since 2017, he has been a professor of keyboard harmonization at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, and since 2021 an organ teacher alongside Olivier Latry.
He began his musical studies at the Bayonne Conservatory with Esteban Landart and continued them at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where he obtained five first prizes. His teachers include Olivier Latry, Michel Bouvard, Thierry Escaich, Philippe Lefebvre, Fabien Waksman, Isabelle Duha, and Pierre Pincemaille.
Winner of several international competitions (Zaragoza, Chartres, Toulouse, Grand Prix Florentz of the Academy of Fine Arts), he held the position of "young artist in residence" for six months at the Cathedral of Saint Louis King of France in New Orleans, LA.
