As Longwood’s Manager of Soils and Composting, a large focus of Erik’s work focuses on material circularity; ensuring all garden-produced waste is being ground, composted, screened, and ultimately transformed from a waste product into a high quality finished product like hardwood mulch, compost, and leaf mulch. Erik and his team annually divert around 10,000 cubic yards of garden waste from entering the landfill and produce close to 5,000 cubic yards of finished products that are returned to the gardens proper for use by our horticulturists.
