Announcing Our Redesigned Landscape Design Certificate

Designed for those looking to start their own landscape design practice, to those in horticulture and landscape fields looking to build their design skills, to hobbyists, our newly evolved Landscape Design Certificate gives you the design and drawing skills needed to create exquisite landscapes of all kinds.

Our robust curriculum, designed and taught by industry-leading professionals from one of the great gardens of the world, enables you to transform your dreams into garden realities. With coursework in design theory, hand-drafting, best practices, plant selection and siting, and more, take the next step and grow your landscape design skills and knowledge.

Over the course of the program, render your own designs while mastering the design principles and graphical skills required to understand client needs, translate them to paper, and communicate your design intent.

Certificate Requirements

In order to complete the Landscape Design Certificate, students must complete a total of 156 hours of coursework (126 hours of core courses, 30 hours of elective learning). Please see below for additional information.

Electives (30 hours required)

In addition to the core coursework, students must complete at least 30 hours of qualifying elective coursework.

A selection of elective courses will be offered every year and are subject to change from year to year. Examples of Landscape Design Certificate elective courses include Asian-Inspired Garden Design, Math for the Garden and Landscape, The Business of Garden Design, Designing Themed Gardens, and Designing Stormwater Solutions.

If you have completed all required coursework and believe you are eligible to graduate, please send your completed tracking sheet to the Continuing Education team at continuingeducation@longwoodgardens.org.
